Bill Jenkins and the Virginia Mountain Boys

A highlight of our year is our annual concert featuring local Bill Jenkins and his band. Join us and enjoy Old Time, Early Bluegrass, Folk, Camp Meeting, and Gospel Music — unique harmonies, captivating arrangements, and a rollicking good time!

Wonders of the Water

Visit the Wonders of the Water page.

Held on a Saturday morning in July, “Wonders of the Water” is time set aside to introduce children between the ages of 5-10 about the watermen’s way of life. In small groups, the children learn how to identify different types of boats, how to clean a fish, how to tong for oysters, how crab pots are made and work, how to pick a crab, boat safety, and how to tie a knot.

Guinea Heritage Day – the first Sunday after Labor Day

Visit the Guinea Heritage Day page.

The first Sunday after Labor Day, the GHA honors the local community by announcing the Grand Marshal for the Guinea Jubilee, unveiling the winning print for the year, and introducing the Children’s Art Contest Winners. This community day also includes a cake auction featuring locally homemade confections.

The Guinea Jubilee

Visit the Guinea Jubilee page.

The Guinea Jubilee is a two-day event that annually attracts thousands of people to celebrate and honor the way of life in the Guinea Neck. The Jubilee features cultural activities, arts and crafts exhibits, a parade, a 5K run/walk, delicious seafood, and local musicians. This festival is always held the last Friday and Saturday in September.

Money raised by the Guinea Jubilee contributes to the GHA and its activities throughout the year to celebrate the Guinea community. This family-friendly fundraising event is free and open to the public.

Christmas in Guinea

The second Saturday in December, the GHA celebrates Christmas in Guinea at Buck’s Store Museum. Join us for a day of fun and “Thank You” as GHA gets to show our gratitude to YOU, our community, for all your support over the last year.

You can do a little Christmas shopping, visit with family & friends, and enjoy a light lunch, complete with dessert, of course!

BBQ Sales – Throughout the Year

Buck was known for the BBQ sandwiches he served in his general store. The GHA carries on that tradition with its Saturday lunches served between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. Stop by Buck’s on a Saturday and enjoy a BBQ combo!
